| General |
We realise there are lots of other web sites dedicated to shopping. Some of them allow consumers to write and read reviews on shops, some have forums, some have regional search facilities, some even offer cash back on purchases. However, we couldn’t find one that offered all of these and that’s what makes BigHair different – we have brought together all these useful features in one web site. And unlike a lot of web sites these days, BigHair wants you to be able to access the information you want as quickly and easily as possible, so we don’t use annoying pop ups or big flashing banner adverts. |
| |
No! Although a lot of thought has gone into BigHair, it’s still only the ideas and observations of two people and we’d be very surprised if we’d covered everything. No one likes to be criticised, but we want to make BigHair a web site that you’ll want to keep coming back to and even recommend to your friends, and we won’t achieve that unless we listen to your feedback. We can’t promise to implement all the changes you suggest, but we’ll certainly consider them and maybe ask for feedback from other users to see if they agree with you. If you’ve got any comments or suggestions we’d love to hear them – use the contact form to get in touch. |

BigHair was set up by Judith Smith and George Rose in August 2003. It is now solely run by George. |

Every time you make an online purchase via BigHair we get commission from the retailer for sending you to their web site. We give you all that commission except for just a 2p administration charge. |
| |
This is a common question. The answer is quite simply no. You could reach the £10 in just one purchase! |
| |
| |
| Registration |
You can use the web site to search for and visit shops without having to register. However, registration is FREE and will allow you to get cash back on purchases made through the web site. |
| |
No catch, but there are a few things to bear in mind. You can only open one account and we only make cash back payments provided your BigHair Account balance is £10 or more. You must make your purchases online (rather than by phone/fax etc) otherwise retailers can not link your transaction to BigHair. You must have 'cookies' enabled in your Internet Browser as retailers use these to link your purchase to BigHair - view the technical section of our help for more information on this. |
| |
No. Never. Please read our Privacy Policy for more information on what we do with the data you give us. If, having read the Privacy Policy, you still have a question please contact us. |
| |
This usually means there was a problem with the e-mail address you entered when you registered. The best solution is to re-register with BigHair, then contact us to tell us the nickname of the invalid account that you have created. |

| CashBack |
Every time you make an online purchase from one of the web sites featured on BigHair we receive a sales commission from your chosen retailer. Unlike many other online shopping portals, we believe that you should to be rewarded for making purchases using our web site and have therefore chosen to share this money with you. |
| |
Yes. The sales commission (the source of your CashBack) is only generated if you start each shopping trip at BigHair. This includes making one purchase straight after another at the same store (eg if you're sending purchases to different addresses) as well as when you move to another store. To help you remember to make BigHair your first port of call for online shopping why not make us your Homepage or add us to your list of Favourites. |
| |
This depends on where you shop and how much you spend. The majority of retailers pay a percentage of the amount you spend at their store (excluding postage and packing). Different retailers offer different sales commission rates. The amounts can be found inside the dotted blue boxes alongside the retailers in our free cash and category listings. |
| |
Yes, in most cases, because the CashBack offered by BigHair is seperate from any special deals offered by the retailers. You will actually find a lot of special offers advertised on BigHair. The retailers know they are featured on BigHair and want to ensure that their latest deals are advertised. |
| |
We update accounts with CashBack each Tuesday. If you were to purchase something today, it will appear in your account this coming Tuesday.
Sometimes shops don't notify us in time for us to add it on the Tuesday after you made your purchase. If this is the case then the CashBack will be added the first Tuesday after the shops notifies us of the purchase.
Your account is updated manually by us, so don't worry if it takes a little longer than a week, as sometime we may actually want to take a break!
Dealing with CashBack for the shops on BigHair is split approximately 50-50 between George and Judith. CashBack for some shops may appear before CashBack appears for other shops. Again, don't worry if the CashBack doesn't appear in your account all at once. |
| |
If you feel you are out of pocket it may be because you have included the postage and packing charges made by the retailer or VAT in the transaction amount. Most retailers do not include postage and packing or VAT when calculating the amount of commission due to us.
Remember, we take 2p of your cashback for administration. |
| |
Sometimes the retailer does not tell us the full amount of the transaction, and only the amount CashBack. In such cases we cannot enter a transaction amount for purchases, and can only show the amount of CashBack you will receive. |
| |
The most likely explanation is that you returned the product to the retailer and got a refund or you cancelled the order. The retailer will not pay us commission if you return the item or cancel the order, and therefore we can not give you any CashBack. Please note that this also applies if you return a product and ask for an exchange rather than a refund. In this case the retailer cancels your original order and creates a new one themselves. The retailer does not regard this new order as being linked to BigHair because they have created it themselves and as a result will not pay us any commission (so no CashBack for you). If you do want to exchange a product, but don't want to lose your BigHair CashBack, you should ask the retailer for a refund and then place a new order via BigHair. |
| |
A common reason why people may not have received a payment is that they have not given us the necessary information to send the payment. Please check you've done this before getting in contact. |
| |
Payments are made around the start of each month. You are eligible for payment when the amount of 'processed' CashBack in your BigHair Account exceeds £10. |
| |
We currently offer 2 payment options - EggPay and BACS (bank transfer). To receive an EggPay payment you must supply us with an Egg Password. To arrange a BACS payment we will need to know some of your bank details (sort code, account number, account name, bank name, bank branch). We use SSL to ensure that these details are secure. You can select your payment option in the 'Payment Options' section of 'MyBigHair'. |
| |
No. Not a sausage! However you ask for your money to be paid, EggPay, bank transfer or cheque, you will not be charged any fee. |

When selecting retailers for the site we made sure that they all have a trusted level of security. We have visited each online retailer personally to ensure this.
The retailers that BigHair link to use a system known as Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption to make sure that your details are not visible to anyone other than you and the retailer. This technique encrypts both sent and received data using a long encryption 'key' that would require up to 100 million years to discover through the use of trial and error. Considering most transactions take a few minutes, the chances of discovering the 'key' are minimal.
If you want extra peace of mind, there should be a padlock symbol displayed on the browser at the time of handing credit card details over. Also, the address of the site should start 'https' rather than the usual 'http', and if you right click on the page and select 'Properties' (depending upon which browser you use), you should see something like:
SSL 3.0, RC4 with 128 bit encryption (High); RSA with 1024 bit exchange
which will confirm the page is secure. |
| |
Yes. When handling sensitive data we use https and SSL to make sure that data is encrypted. For security reasons, however, it is always worth checking that the padlock symbol is displayed on your browser, and that the address in your browser starts with: https://secure.svr1-speedyservers.com/~bighair/
as this is the address of our secure server. |
| |
Go to our browser test page and test your browser.
Please note that ad-blocking facilities in firewall software and toolbars are not checked for. If you have software that blocks ads it is advised that you switch of the ad-blocking before using BigHair. |
