Does It Spark Joy?

2021 is here! A New Year and new lockdown makes the perfect time for you to look around and start to declutter not just your home, but things that no longer spark joy.

Here are some ideas of things you can clear out and declutter for the New Year.

CLOTHING YOU NEVER WEAR

This is an obvious decluttering go-to. With the rise of fast fashion, many of us have tons of clothes we never wear or have only worn once just hanging around. Not only does this take up lots of space, but there are so many people who need clothing and would love to wear the items that no longer interest you! Just thinking of the joy you'll bring to someone else can be the motivation you need to finally clear out that lingering clutter.

LINGERING TO-DO TASKS

Are you guilty of writing a never ending to-do list but never actually doing anything on the list? Now's the time to either do it or get it off the list. If it's an appointment you've been putting off, schedule it. If it's a call you've been meaning to make, pick up the phone. If it's something that can't be done in one sitting, at least take the first step to get the ball rolling and break it down into smaller, actionable tasks that you will actually do.

SUBSCRIPTIONS YOU DON'T USE

Subscription services and boxes are now more popular than ever but are you actually using them? The New Year and this lockdown is a great time to go through all your subscriptions and make sure you're actually using and enjoying them.

NEGATIVE SOCIAL ACCOUNTS

Do you follow any social media accounts that make you feel unhappy, angry, worthless, or negative? Now is the time to unfollow them! You’re not required to follow any accounts that bring you down. Most of us spend a ton of time on social media, which is why it's so important to go into the new year with a positive and productive collection of accounts in your feed. Obviously not every account needs to make you feel pure joy, but if you have some in your feed that are causing you serious mental anguish, get rid of them!

EXPIRED FOOD + HAIR PRODUCTS

Go through your fridge and cabinets and get rid of anything that's expired. If you come across food that's still good but that you know you won't eat, see if you can donate it to a local charity or food bank so that someone else can enjoy it rather than just throwing it in the trash. When it comes to hair products, check for changes in smell, texture and colour these are all signs that a product is breaking down due to age or contamination. This gives you the perfect opportunity to stock up on all your Big Hair products.
